We wanted to create a space where children can have fun in a stimulating environment, turning what is often viewed as a chore into an enjoyable experience for them. We work on the principle of happy children = happy parents, but we look after them too, with hot drinks, magazines and wi-fi. Why not pop in and see what makes us so special?
Meet The Little BigHeads Team!
My ultimate aim with Little BigHeads is to create an environment which offers children and their parents a salon which they can truly relax in. One of my favorite words I’ve heard used to describe the salon was from Maisie a six year old – “Magical” That sums up pretty well what we try to achieve on a daily basis. We are low on gimmicks – for example we don’t feature the big novelty chairs you may see in other children’s salons. (Reason….it’s actually quite difficult to achieve a technically accurate haircut when a child is sat in them as they are quite bulky, and as much as you want your child entertained for the duration of the haircut we think you would prefer a perfect haircut!) nor do we feature electronic games consoles, as we don’t want children over stimulated before having their haircut as its more difficult for them to sit still. Instead we feature low stimulation, relaxing distractions – films and TV shows from a very wide range, a beautiful playroom filled with high quality amusing and educational toys, and the all important reward at the end – lollipop or raisins and a sticker.
The overwhelming positive feedback we have received over the past few years has been just incredible – but please don’t think we will ever become complacent – I am always looking at ways we can improve our services and experience for our customers so please do get in touch if you would like to make any suggestions!
After working in adult salons for ten years I have found the perfect place to work! I love children, and have two of my own, a girl and boy.
Styling children’s hair is so rewarding, I love how each of them have their own unique personality and no two children (or haircuts) are ever the same.
Since working at Little BigHeads I have become very interested in helping children with SEN, including those on the autistic spectrum. A haircut can be quite traumatic for these children (and their parents) but by making a few adjustments and understanding them better can make all the difference to how they feel, and helps to create successful visit.
I qualified as a hairdresser in 2006 and spent my time working in adult salons until I came across Little BigHeads. Having a 2 year old sister whom I spend a lot of time with and adore, I loved the thought of mixing my love of hairdressing with my love of children.
I especially like dealing with children who get upset at the thought of having their haircut – people always tell me I’m a very calm person and I think this rubs off on the children. Its really rewarding when I have a little client who started off hating having their hair cut and now races into the chair and is all smiles. Its nice to think that in some small way we’ve made parents life that bit easier!
After leaving school I couldn’t decide between becoming a hairdresser or working in childcare – but at Little BigHeads I get the best of both worlds!
I love working with children and in the past I have been a volunteer at Ashgates Specialist School, for Children with special needs.
It’s great to experiment with the latest styles, and adapt them to become more age appropriate – my favorite styles are the ‘surfer dude’ look for boys, and for girls the classic bob always looks great and is a low maintenance neat look for little girls.
I love doing hair up’s and party hair not only on little girls but Mums too! I also do hair wraps, face painting and nail art in the salon, and love experimenting with new ideas. Our parties are great, particularly the Disco Diva ones – I think we have as much fun as the children!
I have worked in adult salons for over 7 years, and the idea of working in a children’s salon really appealed to me. I love the team I work with they are a great bunch of girls. No two days are ever the same here ….. one morning I can be doing little girls bobs all day and in the afternoon I can be doing the latest Justin Bieber style!
I also love getting involved in the parties – how many other jobs can you be a princess for an afternoon or get to have a One Direction dance off???
Prior to working at Little BigHeads I have worked in nursery’s since leaving college. I really enjoy working with children and have two boys myself, Harrison who is 6 and Ethan who is 4. I love getting to know all of the children and their parents – we have some children who came in for their very first haircut and now they are starting school – its so nice to watch they grow up and change from visit to visit!
Its so nice to work in such a family orientated environment I love chatting to all of our customers and helping to make their visit to us as special and enjoyable as I can.
